Free to Feed is a cooking school with a difference — or rather, their mission is to make a difference.

As Melbourne’s first pop-up cooking school, all classes are run by refugees and asylum seekers.

All instructors have exceptional cooking skills and, before leaving their countries, played important roles serving traditional dishes as professionals to their families and communities.

Now, as asylum seekers without jobs in Australia, starting over can be challenging, and that is where Free to Feed comes in. Through the cooking classes the instructors receive training, support and a wage.

Plus it’s a fun story-telling gathering. From Hamed’s Iranian masterclass and Niro’s curry class to Norisa’s Persian kids’ session and Mahsids’ Middle Eastern favourites, the food created is just as interesting as the chefs themselves.
